STUDIO FOR US

Studio For Us was started by a few friends and BIPOC artists studying Craft and Material Studies at VCUarts. Though we all came from different backgrounds, we knew what it felt like to exist in a space where we weren’t represented. After finding comfort and compassion with each other, we decided to create a website where we could uplift our peers and extend our community. Studio For Us exists to create a space where BIPOC artists can create, collaborate, and share their experiences.

What started it all…

Aram Han Sifuentes

Support examples of decolonized practices from people of color. Open spaces for inclusion in our fine art spaces, galleries, museums, and publications for artists whose work is often marginalized as “mere craft” …

Jeah Hacinas

“Creating a community for POC artists in craft is not way to distance our self from the masses or separate us from other minorities. Having this community is a way showing our solidarity for our selves, acknowledging that we’re here, and bridging these connections to each other. This community, this studio is for us.”
