Jessica Cossio (She/Her)

I make to understand where I come from and why I'm here.

Jessica Cossio is a Bolivian-American ceramic artist who was born and raised in Virginia. She is currently studying at Virginia Commonwealth University, majoring in Craft and Material Studies and minoring in both Art History and Painting and Printmaking. She is heavily influenced by Incan culture and Bolivian traditions such as hair braiding, holidays, and rituals. She translates these cultural aspects into ceramic sculptures as well as representations on functional tableware. She’s been in juried exhibitions such as No Place Like Home and Better and worked with ceramic artist Magdolene Dykstra, an NCECA emerging artist. Jessica has been working in clay for 2 years and hopes to have a public studio of her own one day where she can teach the art of craft to marginalized communities.
